The stapler is simple when compared with the advanced computers, printers and scanners found in the modern office, it is no less important. The stapler is essential in binding important documents and maintaining overall organization. If your Bostitch stapler has run out of ammo, you'll need to reload before tackling the next task. Whether you have a standard handheld stapler or a heavy duty model, loading is quick and simple.

Loading a Standard Sized Stapler

Grasp the top arm of the stapler which is situated over the metal carrying tray. Hold down the bottom of the stapler with your free hand.

Pull the arm upward to open the hinge that holds it over the carrying tray. Push the arm back until the tension on the hinge is relieved and the carrying tray is fully exposed.

Blow the carrying tray free of any debris or spent staples with a can of compressed air. Staple fragments can cause jams during future use.

Remove a sleeve of staples from the box. Slide the sleeve into the carrying tray with the pointed ends facing downward. Push the sleeve to the front of the tray.

Grasp the arm and close it down over the carrying tray. As you move the arm downward, you will feel the tension of the hinge return.

Push down forcefully on the the arm to make a test staple. The stapler is now loaded and ready for use.

Loading a Heavy Duty Stapler

Locate the follow block release clip at the rear base of your Bostitch stapler. The follow block is a rod mechanism which pushes staples toward the front of the carrying tray. The block is usually situated in a cradle beneath the stapler's arm.

Push in this clip while simultaneously pulling the block out and away from the stapler arm and carrying tray. Once the follow block has been removed, the carrying tray will be exposed.

Check the tray for any debris or broken staples. Clear the tray with several bursts of compressed air to ensure that no debris remains.

Place a sleeve of heavy duty staples into the carrying tray, prongs facing downward. On most Bostitch models, a visual aid will be printed on or near the tray to help with loading.

Replace the follow block in its cradle and depress the top of it until the spring begins to compress. Continue pushing down on the block until it fits all way into the cradle and clicks into place.

Push down forcefully on the arm of the stapler to make a test staple.

Tip

• When purchasing replacement staples, make sure that you select the correct gauge for your particular Bostitch stapler.

Warnings

• Never place your hand beneath the arm of the stapler when it is in use.
• Never use a stapler that is jammed, or that you think might be jammed.
