Slanted and Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe is a double album by American indie rock band Pavement featuring a remastered version of the band's first studio album Slanted and Enchanted, as well as outtakes & live tracks from the same era as the original release. Pavement's debut album Slanted And Enchanted was an underground sensation even before its 1992 release: Much like Nirvana's Nevermind, which preceded it by just a few months, the album was copied, traded, and spoken of in hushed tones. Yet if Slanted and Enchanted falls somewhere between Pavement the almost-but-not-quite mainstream band and Pavement the noisy oddballs, then that’s something that very much works in its favour. Pavement – Slanted And Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe TAGS: Pavement With his usual archness, Stephen Malkmus retrospectively described Pavement as “a medium-big college rock band”.

Back in April, Pavementteased 'great news coming soon.' This is possibly what they were referring to: The Secret History, Vol. 1, a new compilation out on August 11 via Matador Records. It's the first in a series of five Pavement compilation albums. Each one will include songs from the period associated with each of the band's five albums. The Secret History, Vol. 1 collects songs from the time surrounding the band's debut album, Slanted and Enchanted. The 30-track compilation includes B-sides, rarities, John Peel Sessions, and a 1992 live concert at Brixton Academy. All of the tracks were previously included on the 2002 reissue Slanted and Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe, but are now available unattached to the original release. Update: 25 of the 30 tracks on The Secret History, Vol. 1 are on vinyl for the first time. The Slanted reissue was CD/digital only.
